Introducing Eating Alpha

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

Alpha is an 11-week course that creates a space, online or in person, where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about faith, life and God. Alpha is an opportunity to explore life’s big questions together in an open, informal environment. The Alpha videos unpack the basics of the Christian faith, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus?, How can we have faith? and How does God guide us?

From the very beginning, one of the key components of Alpha has been connecting with others over a shared meal followed by the video and discussion. However, the current pandemic of Covid -19 has changed how we connect and interact with each other. Ongoing social distancing guidelines make it difficult to create a sense of community and trust that a shared meal can bring to a small-group experience.

Theo’s Feast was established in 2014 by Power to Change staff Gary Stevenson as a way to reach university students through shared meals. Essentially, Theo’s Feast is a collection of edible metaphors that are meticulously designed to illuminate spiritual truth through connecting the ingredients, flavours, and presentation of the food to the Gospel story. Gary has since created over 7 themed feasts and hosted well over 2000 dinner guests. Gary is passionate about merging art and hospitality together through creating his memorable Theo’s Feast experiences for his guests.

Eating Alpha is a new partnership that brings these two ministries together in an exciting new way. Over the past 6 months, we have been applying the template of Theo’s Feast’s edible metaphors to the Alpha videos.

The recipes are designed with home cooks in mind. They are simple and economical yet uniquely connect to each Alpha video. Our Eating Alpha dishes uniquely elevate Alpha’s message, bringing spiritual illumination and understanding to the participant in a fresh new way. Overall we are excited to see our Eating Alpha recipes create a renewed sense of community through the Alpha videos, whether it be online or in person.

We are excited about this partnership and look forward to seeing your creations and hearing about your journey through Eating Alpha. Please follow us on Instagram at instagram.com/theosfeast and use the hashtag #EatingAlpha in your posts. Feel Free to leave us comments and ask questions below each recipe/blog post.

Sincerely,

Gary Stevenson & the Eating Alpha Creative Team.
