I never thought food would teach me anything about faith! As a child, I avoided fruits whenever I could. Years later, sitting in a university nutrition class and learning about balanced diets and daily nutrient needs, I had a sudden realization: food isn’t just something we eat—it’s something we depend on.
That insight brings fresh meaning to a familiar prayer. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us to ask, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). Even for those simply exploring faith, this short request is striking in its simplicity. It invites us to trust God for today, not to cling anxiously to tomorrow. Just as the Israelite's gathered manna one day at a time in the wilderness, we are reminded that provision—when it comes from God—is steady, daily, and enough.
“Daily bread” speaks not only to spiritual longing but also to everyday life. Our bodies are designed to need nourishment every single day. In the same way, many people discover a deeper hunger—for meaning, purpose, and direction—that also needs to be met daily.
This is where faith and care for the body intersect. If life is a gift, then caring for it matters. A balanced, varied diet supplies essential nutrients and protects us from deficiency diseases. History shows this clearly: sailors who spent months without fresh fruits and vegetables developed scurvy from Vitamin C deficiency, often with devastating consequences.
Bread itself captures this idea beautifully. In biblical times, bread was a daily staple, just as it remains in many cultures today. It provides energy, protein, fiber, and important vitamins and minerals. Beyond nutrition, bread has come to symbolize something deeper—faithful provision for ordinary, everyday needs.
When Jesus taught people to pray for “daily bread,” He revealed a God who cares about real life—about hunger, strength, and daily survival. For those who are exploring faith, this opens a door: Jesus doesn’t just meet spiritual needs in some abstract sense; He invites a relationship where He becomes the bread of life—satisfying the deeper hunger in our hearts and offering life that lasts beyond today.
So let this simple prayer spark reflection. Go ahead—grab a bite, nourish your body, and give thanks and know that Jesus offers Himself freely to anyone willing to trust Him—faithfully, daily, and personally!

About The Author
Anjalika moved to Canada from Mumbai, India in 2014, to pursue her Master’s degree in Human Nutritional Sciences, following a curiosity that had been growing in her since childhood. She has always been drawn to Health Sciences, as many of her family members are in the medical field and was especially fascinated by how food can play a role in healing and disease management. That curiosity eventually led her into the field of Nutrition, where she began to see food not just as fuel, but as something deeply connected to care, restoration, and wholeness. What began as an academic interest slowly became something more personal—a growing awareness of restoration, care, and wholeness that would later echo in her faith journey.
Born and raised in a Christian household, Anjalika’s relationship with Jesus deepened after she moved to Canada. During her time at university, she reached a point where she realized she could not rely on her own strength. In that season—when she chose to open the door and fully invite Jesus into her life—everything changed. Her walk with the Lord was transformed, drawing her into a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him. Carrying the heavy label of “failure” and feeling discouraged as doors in her life seemed to close, she encountered Jesus in a powerful way. In that moment of surrender, He softened her heart and replaced her heart of stone with a heart of flesh. Through this experience, Anjalika came to better understand the truth of 2nd Corinthians 12:9—that in her weakness, His strength was made perfect.
Since graduating, Anjalika has developed a passion for helping other people take further steps in their own faith journey just as she had taken hers (and continues to take more!). She seeks to bring food and faith together through edible metaphors, journaling recipes, and reflective writing. A homebody at heart, Anjalika enjoys long walks, painting, and traveling. She hopes to one day learn how to swim and is also eager try indoor rock climbing when she gets the chance. She serves as the Donations Administrator for Power to Change Ministries. She married her husband, Ben Revington, in 2024. Together, they serve with the organization.
